Mi Rebozo
Transparent Watercolor 20" x 14"
This is the latest in a series of paintings of my mom Rosy. I didn't intend to do a series of her but she is such a fascinating person and I love hearing her stories that I just keep getting inspired to do more. I'm grateful that she puts up with me and the photo shoots and I'm sure she doesn't think she's anything special but she is.
This painting also has me convinced that I will never try pointillism! I didn't realize how many dots of color I'd be making to create the shawl. I'm glad I trudged through the household full of season's colds and ear infections and holiday madness to get this one done cause it's now my latest favorite.
Blessed Holidays to everyone!

Exciting News!
I just checked out www.realismguild.com to see what was going on with the show I'm a part of and was very surprised to find out that my image "Grandma's Kitchen" is in the January 2008 issue of American Art Collector's Magazine! The article is called "Keeping It Real".
I am so glad and honored to be a part of this show because not only is the art and artists top notch, but it's a huge boost for realism. I've noticed that the majority of galleries and magazines focus on more expressive and more contemporary work so it's time that we real-eestas get into the "spotlight" if you will.
And one more thing: It seems that I'm the only watercolor artist accepted into that show!

Almost Done!
I've been trying to stay focused to finish this one even though the holidaze craziness is in full swing with kindergarten and grade school events, and one of the twins home with a temp. for three days.
I'm hoping to post the finished painting as soon as I can cause I'm really excited about it. No name for this one yet, I'll wait to hear it's name in the wind.
I'm so grateful for Mama Rosy putting up with me, making her pose, this time in the chilly wind just before the sunset. She's used to the 105 degree temps back in Baja so our wind making it 60 degrees was a challenge for her. . . the shawl constantly hid her face making the photo session longer than she was willing to handle.
Your my constant source of inspiration and spirituality and strength!

I've been tagged!
I got tagged by Marcia Molnar www.thepaintedjournal.com who's paintings are so full of light and life, I just love them!
I'm supposed to write 5 little known things about myself then tag 5 other artiststo do the same. Here it is. . . .
1. I went to 1st Grade three times, I refused to go to kindergarten when I was in Mexico so my mom talked the teacher into letting me in the 1st grade class, a couple of months later I had to go to the U.S. for medical attention, a little after that I went to 1st grade in California but had to stay back another year cause I didn't know how to speak English, third time was the charm I guess.
2. I learned to speak English by watching Bugs Bunny.
3. Much to my wife's annoyance, I can memorize lines to movies after seeing them once or twice.
4. Being an artist was never my dream, I've just always been an artist, otherwise I'd be some kind of ololgist. . . like vulcanologist or paleontologist or mineralololgiststststs, something that deals with mother earth.
5. I co-wrote the title track to Linda Guerrero's CD "At Last" in Guam.....that was another life ago.
Now to do some taggin'!
