Lakota

"Lakota" 19"x30"  Watercolor

This magical moment happened during an Honoring the Elder's powwow I attended, she was amongst the dancers, enjoying the music, the energetic dancing and dancing with her grandma.
It's the little moments that really touch me.

I am honored to be accepted into IWS Mexico

"Hummingbird"  will be included in the International Watercolor Exhibit in Mexico City!  I am beyond excited as it has been a long time dream of my mom for my paintings to be shown in Mexico. It's doubly exciting that they have chosen a painting of her.

You can see all the selected artists here:

Doña M II

"Doña M. II"  20"x14" watercolor

I've been working overtime on Doña M's blouse, it was lots of work and I think it came out pretty good.  I've decided that I really like that "what was I thinking" factor of painting because it keeps me focused and makes me push myself to do better.  I'll be having more of those moments in the new paintings I'm working.

Watiq' Oniq' On

Watiq' Oniq' On 17" x 13" watercolor

Did I mention the love/hate aspect of painting hair?  I love the way it turns out in the end and though I don't hate painting it, it is time consuming to layer colors upon colors without making it look overworked.  I really like the perspective of portraits when they are turning away from you, tricky not to make it flat or look like they're in full profile.

Tiny Dancer

"Tiny Dancer"  10" x 8" watercolor

I love watching the smaller kids learn the dances at powwows.  So cute and fun to watch them walk around and try out the steps that more accomplished dancers are showing them.
